Camiguin Island, Philippines

"The island-province of Camiguin is a pear-shaped volcanic island in the northern tip of Mindanao. It is approximately 90 kilometers north of the City of Cagayan de Oro. It is bounded to the north by Bohol Sea, to the west by Macajalar Bay, to the southeast by Gingoog Bay and to the east by Butuan Bay.

Camiguin is the smallest province in Northern Mindanao, with its land area pegged at 29,187 hectares. It is composed of five towns, namely, Mambajao the capital town, Mahinog, Guinsiliban, Sagay and Catarman. The island plays host to seven volcanoes, including the still-active Mount Hibok-Hibok. According to the National Statistics Office, Camiguin has a total population of 74,232 persons, making the province the second smallest in the Philippines in terms of population.

Among the Province's major products are coconut, cassava, banana, camote, palay, corn, fruits, coffee and vegetables. Camiguin's volcanic soil has proved to be a fertile ground for planting various crops. At present, the Provincial government is looking into an agricultural program that would increase the cultivation of fruit trees and vegetables in Camiguin. The Province is also among the best abaca fiber producers in the country. Camiguin is proud of its natural resources, which include sulfur deposits, geothermal energy, agricultural lands and fishing grounds.

The Camiguin culture is a mixture of both Boholano and Cebuano culture. It is very colorful and creative. The people are deeply religious, hospitable and friendly. Cebuano is the major dialect in the Province. However, in the towns of Sagay and Guinsiliban, where most of the indigenous tribes reside, the Kinamiguin dialect is still spoken. Kinamiguin is derived from the Manobo dialect with some mixture of Boholano."

Canonoy Resort

"This is certainly A beautiful beach resort, I would recommend it if you are in the area. The duplex rooms rent for about P 1,200.00, or about $23.00 a day. They are large enough to fit four or five adults easily. The resort grounds are spacious and well kept, there are plenty of beach front teepee cottages located all along the beach front area. They will cater food to your teepee, pool area or rooms. This resort has a function room that seats 60 to 100 persons adequate for that business meeting or seminar. This beach is covered with plenty of soft light brown sand. Your feet won't mind walking in this sand as there are no rocks to speak of. This facility has security guards on duty throughout the day and night. I stayed here for three days and including my food and room cost me only about P 7,000.00 or about $132.00 and that was with nine people in our group part of which slept out on the beach teepees. I enjoyed my stay here and received a bad sunburn, maybe too much fun right?

Location: West coast of Negros Occidental, about forty five minutes, or fifty four kilometers south of Bacolod city."

San Remigio Beach Resort;Cebu

"This beach resort, has an excellent large fresh water pool which is fully lighted for that night swimming party. This resort was designed with beauty in mind, the architecture of the pool area is remarkable. There are plenty of pool side tables and chairs to accommodate its guests. There is a large parking area that will accommodate larger vehicles and busses. Your resort stay will be enhanced by the beautiful surroundings and many gardens on the property. This facility has plenty security guards on duty throughout the day and night.

Location: San Remigio, about fifteen minutes form the city of Bogo on the north west end of the island of Cebu in central Visayas."

BUSUANGA/ CORON

"On the northeastern part of Palawan is the Calamian group of islands whose main islands are Busuanga, Coron, and Culion. A collection of picturesque islands each with a white sand beach, the islands actually sit atop vast coral reefs. This is why the Calamians are favored by many divers for their underwater adventures. Travelers should also grab the opportunity to see the islands by boat. North of Busuanga is Calauit, the country's sanctuary for wild African animals and rare endemic Philippine animals such as the bearcat and mousedeer. To get to the Calamians, a plane can be taken from Manila to Busuanga. Short land transfers then take visitors to the destination of their choice."
